Microsoft unveils Windows Live Essentials Wave 4 The new version of the suite of Windows Live Essentials family lands and expects to hold the high comparison to the iLife suite of Apple.

This Wednesday, June 3, Microsoft unveils Windows Live Essentials suite 4. After the introduction of the new version of its Hotmail, the suite goes for cloud, highlighting the integration with Web services from Microsoft and sharing with social networks.

The Site Layout also contains a comparison with Apple iLife to prove that the Windows solution is also suitable for multimedia usage and cheaper than a Mac when it comes to online services.

The downside, however: like all the latest software branded from Microsoft Live Essentials Wave 4 is not compatible with Windows XP, that Microsoft would like to see replaced by Windows 7.

New shares for multimedia

Despite the comparison to iLife, Photo Gallery, the software management and photo editing seems rather catch up on Picasa taken. The latest version shipped in effect to facial recognition, automated batch editing photos, webcam capture, sharing (Flickr, Facebook, YouTube and Skydrive), the automatic creation of movies and a simple search (by name, tag, people, dates, location …) are all implemented.

Live Sync offers the synchronization of files between multiple computers via Skydrive, access to a remote computer and the synchronization preferences applications like Office and Internet Explorer.

The text processing tool for online publication simplifies adding media to notes (pictures, videos, maps) and access through a Web interface or in writing posts.

The Family Safety parental control restrictions now centralizes some present in Windows 7 (such as time use, gaming or applications) and forced the filters on search engines Google, Yahoo and Bing.

Live Messenger, finally, includes the long awaited tabbed management discussions, discussion and especially HD video sending video messages to offline contacts. I hope the two way video calling bug is not being fixed while using the webcam.
